Construction of the Marabda-Kartsakhi railway

The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars transport corridor connects the railway networks of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey. The length of the road is 829 kilometers. The construction project began in November 2008.

SIS Business Service is taking part in the project to modernize the Georgian part of the railway on the Marabda – Akhalkalaki – Kartsakhi section, as well as the construction of the Akhalkalaki railway station.

Completed work

Construction of utility and cable networks:

• 250 km – trunk fiber optic line
• 25 km – signaling cable network (150 points)
• 20 km – cable network of control cabinets (24 cabinets)
• 50 km – cable sewer system of Akhalkalaki station
• 10 km – power line

Communication and PA systems:

• Construction of an operational-technological communication network (250 km)
• Construction of a train HF radio communication network (250 km)
• Organization of VHF radio communication in the Akhalkalaki-Kartsakhi section (3 communication towers)
• Construction of a public address network for Akhalkalaki station based on Sensor-M equipment
• Unified data transmission network on the Marabda-Kartsakhi section

Solutions in the field of automation and railway safety:

• Akhalkalaki station dispatch system
• Switch heating system
• Avigilon video surveillance and fire alarm system at Akhalkalaki station
• Video surveillance system in the Marabda-Kartsakhi section

Water supply and sanitation:

• Reconstruction of the water supply system of the Kartsakhi station, including the construction of a pool for receiving water and a pipeline to the station, supply and installation of a pump system.
• Construction of treatment facilities at the Akhalkalaki station, including installation of the KUBO-250 system, construction of a building, an input collector and a 10 kV transformer substation.

On October 30, 2017, the official opening ceremony of the railway service along the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars route took place. Currently, the line serves only freight traffic.

Passenger service is planned to open soon. A modern station building will be built at the Akhalkalaki station according to the design of the German architect Jurgen Mayer.
